Canadian Administrators of Volunteer Resources Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration
Website

History / Background

The Canadian Association of Directors of Volunteer Services in Healthcare grew to encompass a Canada wide membership since its inception in Ottawa in 1980.

In 1996 the Association then moved to expand its membership beyond health related agencies and encompass all those who manage volunteers and volunteer programs and thereby proposed the resolution to change the name of the Association to Canadian Administrators of Volunteer Resources.

The Certified in Volunteer Administration credential was developed in the United States by the Association for Volunteer Administration in the early 1980's as a professional development tool for individual practitioners who mobilize and manage volunteers. After a successful pilot of the new process in 2001, the program continued to grow with very positive feedback from the field. An additional 255 professionals were credentialed from January 2001 to August 2006.
Details of program

See process. A two-part measurement methodology has been designed to demonstrate a candidate's knowledge and application of the core competencies. This is a self-study process, requiring no travel or special classes.
Process

Request a certification package by contacting the Chair of the Certification Committee. The Chair will send you a package and assign you a personal identification number. The package contains detailed information about the process. You will also be assigned an Advisor who will be available to answer questions and provide support.

The Chair of the Certification Committee will review your package to ensure that it is complete, and then will forward your papers to three independent markers. Papers must receive a grade of at least 75%. Should there be a major discrepancy in the marking, the Chair of the Certification Committee may forward the paper to a third marker.
