NEW! Volunteers and the Law in Alberta Online
Volunteers and the Law in Alberta Online is an updated edition of the popular print resource that was developed in 2003 to increase awareness of the legal issues involved in incorporating volunteers into your organization. This FREE interactive web resource is intended to give you a general overview of the various areas of law and how these areas relate to your volunteer programs, your Board of Directors, and to the volunteers themselves.

Best Practices Resources
This latest edition to the Resources page, we hope, is under development. Volunteer Calgary has graciously provided a sample HR Policy Manual that they have just revised to start this off.
If you have a Policy, similar document, or other Best Practices that you would like to share with other organizations, please contact Volunteer Alberta and we will post the submission in this section.
Volunteer Centre HR Policy Manual
VC HR Policy Manual PDF (English only)
Volunteer Calgary hopes that the manual may be of some use if an organization does not currently have a manual or is looking to revisit their current one. It may assist in generating ideas as organizations create their own policies.
This is an example of what Volunteer Calgary has created with the help of many others and does not purport it to be appropriate for anyone else. Although the manual was created with the assistance of a group of highly skilled volunteers and staff from the human resources, legal, and non-profit management professions, and components of its content have been reviewed by the Alberta Labour Code and Human Rights Commission staff, it is highly recommended that interested agencies do due diligence on their part to ensure that whatever content they may use meets all local laws, codes, and regulations.
Volunteer Calgary accepts no responsibility or liability for how the content is used or incorporated into any other organization or publication other than our own. If however the Manual has proven helpful in the development of other publications they would appreciate acknowledgement given to Volunteer Calgary.
